The next meeting of White Rose Quilters will be Wednesday 27th November.

Nel Whatmore will be our speaker for the evening

Nel is a fine artist working in oils and pastels and is well known for her floral paintings which have been exhibited at the Chelsea flower show. She started designing fabric a few years ago and is now on her fourth range. Previous ranges have had themes entitled, Happy go lucky, Sleeping beauty, Katherine's wheel and her latest theme is Eden. She designs for Westminster fabrics, Free spirit range.
Nel also writes poetry and has had several books published.

I am looking  forward to hearing how she got into designing fabric and seeing some of her original designs.

We have advertised this event to attract outside visitors and we will be running a small raffle.
Nel will also be bringing along some cards and books to sell.

1 piece of main fabric and 1 piece of lining fabric 4 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches
1 piece of iron on interfacing 4 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches - please iron interfacing to the main fabric.
Hand sewing kit.

Christmas Challenge
We are issuing a Christmas Challenge to all White Rose Quilters members that will be judged at the Christmas meeting on Wednesday December 18th.
We have asked that everyone brings a "goody bag" to the October meeting containing 6 to 8 items.
These are to  include fabric and other embellishments, lace, net, felt, ribbon, braid, beads, buttons, fancy threads etc.
The bags should have a Christmas theme but be as varied and exciting as members can make them to encourage everyone to participate in the challenge.
The "goody bags" will be exchanged anonymously at the October meeting.
Members will then have 6 weeks to design and make an item of their choosing, using the contents of the bag, plus anything from their own stash they wish or need to add to complete the item.
My hope is that this challenge will encourage everyone to be creative and innovative.
I will post photographs of the results in December.

September meeting

The first meeting was attended by nearly all the current members and everyone had a try at the folded patchwork technique. Some found the technique more difficult and frustrating than others but everyone produced at least one sample of either the folded flower or the windmill.  More details can be found in the meetings review section.
Details for both the October meeting,  when we will be making a useful fabric "caddy", and the Christmas challenge will be posted soon.
